Simple Tripod MicroscopeThis simple tripod microscope was constructed sometime after 1850. The model featured below was redrawn from photographs of the original microscope, which is part of the Billings microscope collection at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. Closer to a compound loupe, this magnifier has a three-inch blackened brass tripod base. Mounted in the lens holders are two 2-inch diameter plano-convex lenses in blackened brass rings. Both lenses are low power and focus for the "microscope" is fixed. BACK TO NINETEENTH CENTURY MICROSCOPES Questions or comments? Send us an email.© 1998-2022 by Michael W.
