Hoffman Modulation Contrast Image Gallery
Fish Scales
Eosin-stained fish scales take on a pseudo three-dimensional appearance when viewed under Hoffman modulation contrast, as illustrated below.
The red-stained, bony scale in the central portion of the iimage appears next to its neighbors in stark contrast to the gray background of the skin membrane.
