Spencer Compound Binocular MicroscopeThe unusual stage design on this microscope was intended to provide ease of use for the operator. The model featured below was redrawn from a photograph of the original microscope, which is part of the Billings microscope collection at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. The binocular body has a variable inclination mechanism, and is provided with a combination single/double tube for convenience. The eyepiece tubes are positioned to converge at the proper angle, and there are concentric knobs on both sides of the stage near the fine adjustment mechanism to provide ample specimen translation. The coarse focus knob is positioned on the limb to allow for quick focus after changing objectives. BACK TO TWENTIETH CENTURY MICROSCOPES Questions or comments?
