Simple Compound Tripod Microscope

This cute tripod microscope is inscribed "Junior; Made in Germany", and folds into a metal tubular case for storage. The model featured below was redrawn from photographs of the original microscope, which is part of the Billings microscope collection at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC.

The body tube has an ocular and is equipped with three objectives that focus on a small stage positioned just below the body. Specimens are fastened to the stage by means of a clip, and the single mirror is connected by a pin gimbal. The microscope is supported by three legs, each about four inches long.
