Texas Longhorns

Texas Longhorns

The Texas State flag and a longhorn steer (presumably from the University of Texas) were discovered on an Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) clone of Intel's 386 microprocessor chip. We have actually found a variety of silicon images using this motif on AMD chips, but this one is the largest and has the sharpest definition. The steer is approximately 100 microns in length when measured from the tip of one horn to the tip of the other. We are told by Rudy Albachten of AMD that the internal code name for the 386 project was "longhorn", an influence by the close proximity of the University of Texas.
