Lamivudine is used in the treatment of AIDS, usually in combination with AZT and/or other drugs. Although these drugs will not lead to a cure of this deadly malady, they do help slow down the destruction of the immune system by the AIDS virus. The drug is marketed in the United States under the trade name Epivir and in Canada under the trade name 3TC. Side effects include abdominal pain, nausea, tingling, burning, and numbness.
