Siemens TV Set

Siemens TV Set

This cute miniature television set, at 80 microns in size, is probably the world's smallest TV. It is located near the pad ring on a Siemens SDA 9188-3X video processor integrated circuit. The Siemens Semiconductor Group is now Infineon Technologies, poised to command a large market share of the industry. The SDA 9188-3X is a Picture-in-Picture processor with on-chip phased-loop logic designed to combine two asynchronous video sources so that a small image (the inset picture) can be superimposed in a moving picture of normal size (the parent picture).

The chip containing this artwork was loaned to us by Chipworks, a company that is an international provider of reverse engineering services, analyzing the circuitry and physical composition of semiconductor chips and electronics systems for competitive study, intellectual property support, and reliability assurance.
