Silicon Eagle

Silicon Eagle

We stumbled across this miniature silicon eagle while examining an integrated circuit of undetermined function, which was probably manufactured in East Germany during the Cold War. Although the silicon artwork is unfamiliar, it appears to be a modification of the symbolic eagle of the German Weimar Republic. The wafer was loaned to us by Marcus Jacob of the Precision Engineering Division of the University of Applied Sciences, in Jena.
