CamelSega (Darkfield)

CamelSega (Darkfield)

This camel appears alone in the corner of a General Instrument integrated circuit along with the name CAMELSEGA, to which we believe the camel icon refers. The colorful banding across the camel's hump is due to thickness variations in the metal layer comprising the artwork. We are not sure of the type or function of this chip, although the overall die is one of the nicest fabs we have yet seen.

This photomicrograph was derived from a chip housed in the Smithsonian Institution integrated circuit collection (Sequent computer - catalog number: 1994.0760.018A).
