Structure Determination Using NMR

There are three basic aspects of an NMR spectrum that help chemists determine the chemical structure a substance:

  1. Chemical Shifts - peak frequencies (Hz or PPM)
  2. Scalar Couplings - peak splitting patterns
  3. Intensities - area under a peak or set of peaks
